THE 48-HOUR INTERNATIONAL FILM PROJECT RETURNS FOR RECORD-BREAKING YEAR!


The 48 Hour International Film Project, renowned for its rapid-fire filmmaking challenge, is excited to announce that this year's competition will take place from Friday, 27 September – Sunday, 29 September 2024.


Filmmakers from across Africa will come together to write, shoot, edit, and score their short films within an exhilarating 48-hour timeframe, showcasing their creativity and collaboration under pressure.This year's competition promises to be more thrilling than ever, with participants from Lesotho, Zambia, Nigeria, and Ukraine joining the KwaZulu-Natal Chapter, led by passionate City Producer Nerusha Maharaj-Sadapal.


"We are thrilled to welcome filmmakers from across Africa and beyond to participate in this year’s project," said Maharaj-Sadapal.

"The diversity of talent and perspectives will undoubtedly elevate the quality of films created during this record-breaking year."

Filmmakers will be tasked with producing a short film masterpiece by selecting from two provided genres or even daring to combine them.


Each film must also incorporate three specific elements that will be revealed at the start of the competition, adding an extra layer of creativity and excitement.


Reflecting on her own experience, Lungelo Mngomezulu, Director of SABC1's Uzalo and a former top contender of the 48 Hour Film Project said:


"The 48 Hour Film Project shaped my career and taught me the value of discipline and teamwork under immense pressure."

This sentiment resonates with many filmmakers who have participated in the past, as the project not only fosters artistic skills but also builds lasting friendships and professional networks.


As the deadline approaches, filmmakers are encouraged to register early to secure their spot in this adrenaline-pumping event. With the clock ticking down, participants will experience the thrill of creating their films in just 48 hours, pushing their creative boundaries and honing their skills in writing, shooting, editing, and scoring.
