Born in De Aar, Northern Cape, MIA is the personification of
multi-talented.
The 19-year-old singer/songwriter has already
been compared to artists such as Beyonce and Jazmine Sullivan indicating her talent. being the fresh new voice in the music industry who is set on taking the world by storm with her debut single "What is Love".
Chatting to Ledikwa Media, the young vocalist shared that music is life to her and she doesn't see herself apart from music.
"Music is honestly life to me, I can't see myself not being able to create music and being happy for eternity," she said.
Having participated in numerous talent shows from the age of 7, being driven by her passion she decided to put her talent to the test by going to South African Idols and reaching the top 30 at the age of 16. She went on to win Best New Artist in her province in the same year. The young artist took a leap of faith, leaving home and moving more than 700 km to Johannesburg to pursue a music career.
"What made me start a career in music is firstly my love for it and secondly my passion for creating, and thirdly my intense desire to perform on award show stages," she added.
Mia whose real name is Zimkhitha Silo has had a really fun journey in music so far though it had a few speed bumps along the way it has taught her a lot, she explained that her latest single 'What is Love' was inspired by her desire to know how it feels to be in love from a males perspective.
"One of the challenges that I had to overcome in the industry was me being shy about my craft or about my opinion and I overcame that by just realising that my opinion and what I thought had value," she concluded.
Mia built a fanbase utilizing the social media platform TikTok, which exposed her to a global audience. With videos that have reached over 1M views, she has seen reactions and comments
from Hrs and Hrs singer Muni Long, James Vickery, Kenyon Dixon, Dreya Mac, and local artists including Nkosazana Daughter, Sino Msolo, Yumbs, and De Mthuda.
