In celebrating of South Africa's rich cultural heritage, the South African Traditional Music Achievements Awards (SATMA Awards) joined forces with the Department of Sport, Arts & Culture and SABC to unveil the eagerly anticipated list of nominees for the 2023 ceremony. The grand announcement occurred on September 30, 2023, at the SABC Radio M1 Studio in Auckland Park.
The event was a vibrant convergence of the public, esteemed guests, and a multitude of musicians, all expressing their solidarity for traditional South African music. Attendees seized the opportunity to proudly showcase their heritage by adorning themselves in traditional attire, transforming the red carpet into a tapestry of colours reminiscent of the rainbow nation. With its exquisite designs infused with an unmistakable African touch, Fashion Kulture contributed to the visual spectacle.
The audience was treated to electrifying performances by renowned artists, including Singer Zuko, Amahle Miss Hilary, Amalethukuthula, Jeremiah Fyah Ises, and Jessica Mbangeni. The University of Pretoria Up Ovuwa Cultural Ensemble also graced the stage, inspiring everyone to celebrate their cultural roots.
During the event, SATMA Awards founder Mr. Dumisani Goba paid a heartfelt tribute to the South African freedom fighter Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu, adding a poignant touch to the nominee announcement.
